POULTRY SPECIAL RULES:
ALL POULTRY AND EGGS MUST BE IN PLACE by 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday of the fair week.
POULTRY AND EGGS WILL BE JUDGED at 10:00 am. on Wednesday of the fair week.
POULTRY SHOWMANSHIP CONTEST will be held immediately following breed judging;
times will be posted in the Poultry Barn on Wednesday of the fair week.
TO PARTICIPATE IN THE SHOWMANSHIP CONTEST the exhibitor must have an entry in
the Junior Market Poultry Division (PML). Only PeeWees are exempt from PML
requirement.
EXHIBITOR CATEGORIES SHALL BE DESIGNATED AS FOLLOWS:
I. POL - Breeding Poultry
II. PML - Junior Market Poultry, (4-H and FFA)
FEES:
I. All exhibitors will be charged entry fees of $8.00 per entry.
II. Egg Class - $3.00.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:
I. All poultry must be owned and cared for by the exhibitor for no less than 90
consecutive days prior to the opening of the fair.
a. Exception: Broilers (PML 31) must be owned and cared for by the exhibitor for
not less than 45 consecutive days. Broilers are a single bird.
II. Number of Entries per exhibitor are as follows:
a. Exhibitors in the open class (POL) will be limited to no more than six entries in
any one class.
b. No exhibitor will be allowed to enter more than two (2) entries in each PML
class.
III. No clipped wings will be allowed in the Open Classes.
IV. All entries must be checked in and out with the Superintendent(s).
V. Entries showing any evidence of disease or infected with parasites will not be
accepted.

VI. Any one bird may not be entered in more than one class.
VII. POL entry cards must show breed, variety, and age classification.
VIII. Reclassification will be permitted on poultry that can be readily identified by entry
card.
IX. Each entry will compete with each other within their breed and class with 5 or more
in one class.
CARE AND HERDSMANSHIP REQUIREMENTS:
I. Exhibitors must care for their own entry twice daily NO EXCEPTIONS.
II. Exhibitors must feed & water between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. and between 4 p.m. & 6
p.m. daily.
III. Feed is supplied by the Poultry Barn, courtesy of Landmark Mercantile. Each
exhibitor should plan on bringing their own feeders/waterers.
IV. Each exhibitor is responsible for feeding and watering their own exhibits; if they are
unable to do so for good reason, it is their responsibility to arrange for someone else
to care for their poultry. They should never go without being fed and watered twice
daily.
V. Cages must be cleaned as needed throughout the week. Failure to care for your
exhibit may disqualify you from awards/auction proceeds.
VI. All cages and surrounding areas are to be cleaned on Friday morning by all
exhibitors.
VII. Project leaders are responsible for ensuring their exhibitors follow the rules of
herdsmanship, and are expected to follow up with any exhibitors who are not
adhering to the herdsmanship rules set forth.
VIII. Exhibits are to be left in their cages when not being shown, NO EXCEPTIONS.
BREEDING POULTRY:
I. All Breeding Poultry must be removed from the Fair Grounds by 8:00 p.m. on
Wednesday of Fair week unless the Breeding Poultry is being exhibited by a 4-H or
FFA member that has other Livestock exhibits on the grounds. In this case Breeding
Poultry will be released on Sunday.
II. Exhibitors showing Breeding Poultry only WILL NOT receive a car pass or an exhibitor
pass. They may purchase these from the Livestock office on Tuesday during check in.
AGE CLASSIFICATIONS:
I. Cock Male Fowl 1 year old or older.
II. Cockerel Male Fowl Less than 1 year of age.
III. Hen Female Fowl 1 year old or older.
IV. Pullet Female Fowl - Less than 1 year of age.

I. The Superintendents may, at her/his discretion, declare new classes in the division
and establish those classes in the breed or hybrid class (if quality merits another
class).

6 lbs.
b. LOT 2 PML32 Turkeys Toms Must be under 9 months and over 8 lbs.
c. LOT 3 PML33 Turkeys - Hens Must be under 9 months and over 8 lbs.
d. LOT 4 PML34 Goose Must be under 9 months and over 8 lbs.

SHOWMANSHIP
I. Exhibitors must have poultry in an established classification division to be eligible for
showmanship.
II. Exhibitor shall have the option of taking their animal to the showmanship area with
them when meeting with the judge.
III. The Superintendents may, at her/his discretion, disqualify any exhibitor from
showing for violation of the rules of the division. Disqualification may extend beyond
the violated show.
EGG JUDGING CONTEST:
I. Entries open to all individuals. Each exhibitor is limited to one entry.
II. Each entry shall consist of 6 fresh chicken eggs in a carton.
III. All eggs must be in place by 7:00 p.m. Tuesday of the fair week.
IV. All eggs will be judged on interior and exterior quality. The judge reserves the right to
break eggs, if it is deemed advisable, in order to properly judge the exhibit.
V. There will be a premium of $30.00 for first place, $20.00 for second place and $10 for
third place.
VI. At their discretion, the Superintendent has the right to observe the egg production
hens of each exhibitor.
VII. All eggs and containers will become the property of the fair upon entry, and may be
auctioned off at the discretion of the Superintendents during the Home Economics and
Youth Department Bake Sale. Money will be used to fund Poultry Barn expenses.
AWARDS:
I. Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion of PML will receive buckles and
ribbons; POL Lots will receive ribbons
II. No exhibit unworthy of an award shall receive one, even though there may be no
other competition, nor shall any entry receive an award greater than its merits
justify.
PREMIUMS:
I. Junior Market Poultry Division (PML) no premiums will be paid in this division.
II. Breeding Poultry Division (POL) premiums will be paid from SPONSORSHIP
DONATIONS COLLECTED.
III. Only Junior Market Poultry (PML Division) are eligible for Junior Livestock Sale. A
total of ten (10) birds will be sold with a minimum of one per lot to sell.

CHECK OUT:
I. All Poultry will remain in place until the official check-out time of the exhibitor’s
county.
II. Early release is at the sole discretion of the Superintendent(s).
III. Poultry MUST be picked up by 3 p.m. on Sunday of the fair week.
IV. To be released, the exhibitor MUST clean all cages their poultry have occupied. All
equipment must be returned to appropriate storage tubs.
V. A release form for every exhibit MUST be signed by the Superintendent or the
Assistant Superintendent before the exhibitor can remove any Poultry from the
barn. NO EXCEPTIONS.
VI. Poultry that have sold cannot be removed until Sunday of fair week and a release
form MUST be signed. Poultry sold to another exhibitor must be included on the
buyer’s release.
